I was never really the most artistic person to begin with, although I always enjoyed art class, especially in elementary school. What inspired me to try and make my artwork look presentable was my peers. When I saw all the effort and detail my friends put into their artwork, it made me want to do the same. Throughout the semester I worked with many new mediums that I've never worked with before, and my knowledge with different art mediums has expanded majorly. Along the way, I also learned new techniques with the help of Mrs. Schumann, such as the splattering paint technique or even the logo printmaking technique. I've made mistakes on my artwork throughout the semester, but I'm so glad I was able to have the opportunity to learn and grow with my artistic experiences as well as work with an amazing teacher and classmates. Final ReflectionWhat was a project this semester you would change if you could? Describe the project and your work, including what you didn’t like about the work, then explain what you could have done differently to improve the result. A project I would like to improve on would be my Batik Project. The reason I would like to improve on this is because their are some spots on the project that didn't exactly go as I wanted them too and I didn't really like how they turned out. I would definitely start by improving the tracing lines that I put around the sunflower because I think they turned out a little sloppy in the end. The second thing I would like to improve on would be the spots that are all around my artwork which were supposed to be stars. I applied the hot wax at the wrong time, so It didn't go as I wanted it too. Overall, I still really liked how this project turned out despite the few mistakes I made. I definitely learned a few things such as, when to put the hot wax on the paper depending on what you want to do, and the most important, to just have everything planned out before you start Batiking. What is a media that you enjoyed working with this semester? Write about what the media was, explain why you liked it and give examples of work you created with it. The medium I most enjoyed working with this semester would definitely have to be clay. Clay is made out of natural clay from the earth, and can be tough to work with. When we first started working with clay, I wasn't really the biggest fan because of how tough the clay was to mold, but after a while it got softer and it became more fun to work with. I like the clay medium because it brought me back to my childhood when I would make those clay monsters in elementary school art class and put them in art shows. Below is a picture of my clay Christmas that I created a little while back, which I had so much fun creating. How did taking risks or challenging yourself make you a better artist this semester? Explain how with examples from your work.
Taking risks and challenging myself made me a better artist this semester because it helped me explore new things in art that I've never done before and made my artwork look so much better. For example, when we were doing our tempera paint practices with the different trees and seasons, I was so amazed at how we could use a toothbrush to create the snow splatters in the background. I also used this splattering technique when creating my independent city skylines project. That is an example of risks I've taken and a new technique I have learned. Although I messed up on the splatters a little on my city skylines, I really like how it turned out in the end.
